he was the "Working Girl," and he wore "The Mask of Zorro," but after 18 years of marriage and parting ways, Melanie Griffith andAntonio Banderas have decided to list their Los Angeles estate for a cool $16.1 million.
The couple settled down in Hancock Park – one of the oldest neighborhoods in L.A., known for its architecture and pedestrian friendliness – about 16 years ago. First, the couple bought the original lot for$4.2 million, and then acquired an adjacent lot a year later, at a reported $1.3 million. They razed the property on that annexed lot to create an estate that stood at an acre and a half.
Now whoever buys the property from the actors will get a residence replete with luxurious features, like lush organic, rose gardens, and a tree-shaded patio. There is also a swimming pool tucked away privately within a central courtyard area. Last but not least, the new owners will also get an Italian revival main house full of attractive architectural features.
To begin with, the 15,000-square-foot mansion has a massive grand foyer, an area flooded with natural light where guests are greeted with heavy exposed beams. There is a formal sitting room with terrace, a wood-paneled library and heavy tile flooring throughout the kitchen and main dining room. The house reportedly has 13 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, throughout its three stories. Inside, the property has a two-story banquet hall, hand-stenciled ceilings, four fireplaces and an elevator.
If you like chandeliers, then this place is for you, as stylish lighting hangs in almost every bedroom and sitting room of the house. A lucky guest can have plenty of privacy, with a separate guest apartment. The mansion also features amenities like a gym and a recording studio.
